It's 1953 and the U.S. is settling into life after peace talks in Korea. Pregnant, alone and unsure of her future, Elaine Reilly boards a train and experiences a chance encounter with a real life hero. Bud Tilden is heading back to his northwoods Wisconsin home and wants nothing more than to resume a gentler life among his family and the pines. Involvement with Elaine, run-ins with childhood nemesis Lloyd DeFoe and small town life in general complicate what should be the healing power of Mashkiki Rapids.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Anne Rud Miller spent most of her adult life as a teacher-- 34 years in public high school education, as well as serving as instructor in adult technical and tribal colleges. An avid reader, she devours 2-3 books a week and loves all types of genres. Since publishing her first novel, one of the most gratifying experiences has been "visiting" with book clubs both in person and sharing book club discussions via phone conferences. A group of senior citizens in a nursing facility book club enjoyed weekly chats with her regarding MASHKIKI RAPIDS. Another reader wanted to organize a day tour to Mashkiki Rapids since she was "sure I have seen it on a map."

In her spare time Anne loves traveling, experimenting with new cuisines, reading and playing with her three young grandsons. She is currently at work on another novel.
